Answer: Dear the blood sugar rises during pregnancy to meet the nutritional demands of the fetus. If it rises beyond 160mg/dl then it may result in gestational diabetes. The HCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) and progesterone both have diabetogenic effect and elevate the blood sugar by breakdown of glycogen and inhibition utilisation of glucose. This extra glucose is channeled to the foetus through the placenta. In pregnant women there is increased fat utilisation instead of glucose. Although not all women have high sugar but yes if your diet has alot of sugar in it and you have any history of sugar in your family then it's possible that sugar can raise during pregnancy.
