Question: My wife 57 days pregnant and she is suffering from constipation. What should we do?
Answer: Hi.. Constipation in pregnancy occurs due to hormones that relax the intestinal muscle and by the pressure of the expanding uterus on the intestines. Sometimes, even iron tablets contribute towards constipation. Drinking of fluids can help, maybe lot of water or any of her favourite juices. However, if she is real pain, then ask the gynaecologist to recommend a mild stool softer. It will definitely help.
