Question: I am 26 weeks pregnant , my leg and foot are swelling too much and getting pain while walking , wat to do ? please suggest me ....
Answer: Hello Dear Swelling (oedema) in pregnancy happens because your body is holding on to more fluid than usual. The increased pressure in your leg veins, and pressure from your growing baby on the big veins in your groin, add to the problem. Swelling is common many women experience it around their ankles, particularly in the last few months of pregnancy. The swelling in your legs usually gets worse towards the end of the day, especially if you're on your feet a lot. Gravity makes fluid collect at the lowest point in your body. Hot weather and being tired can also make swelling worse.  Here are some tips that may help: *Eat a healthy diet include a small amount of protein such as beans and pulses, eggs, poultry, fish, or lean meat, with each meal.  *reduce how much salt, sugar as there causes your body to hold on to more fluid.  *Stay hydrated *Opt for foods that are naturally rich in vitamins C and E orange ,sweet lime, guava, amla, lemons, green and red capsicum, potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries *Try to take regular breaks from sitting or standing. Walking, swimming, prenatal yoga are good ways to get the exercise you need. *Rest as much as possible *Do foot exercise *soak your legs in a tub or basin of warm water mixed with rock salt or regular salt. *get a foot massage as well. Gently roll the soles of your feet over the marbles, trying to pick them up with your toes. This will both relax and exercise your feet muscles. *You could also try placing cabbage leaves on the swollen area to draw out excess fluid and relieve your discomfort. Just wipe the leaves clean; there's no need to wash them. Cool them in the fridge first, but not in the freezer. Wrap the chilled leaves around the most swollen parts of your legs and feet to make a compress. Leave them until they become wet, then repeat with fresh leaves until the pain is reduced. Repeat this as often as necessary until you feel more comfortable.
