Don't worry almost all babies go through this phase. You have to keep patience around baby because baby can sense mother's apprehensions and anxiety, which makes them even more difficult to handle. Always respect your baby's choice, if he is denying food then value his decision and instead of forcing food down his throat try to reason out the reasons for this behaviour. Baby complies to you more when you treat him as equals. I totally understand your worry, seeing your child losing weight is heartbreaking but you can handle this situation very well with love and lots of patience.
There could be many reason for your baby not eating food.
1) teething- due to painful gum baby is mostly in awful mood and need something comforting like bm/fm most of the time. Prepare few finger foods for baby and give him an option to choose from two. This might make baby eat it.
2) Anaemia- Usually breastfed baby have low hb levels as breast milk isn't sufficient to meet baby's iron need. That's why doctor recommend iron drop during first year of baby. Try to include more iron rich foods in baby’s meal plan. Also get baby's haemoglobin levels checked. You can also give iron supplements after consulting your paediatrician.
3) Bacterial /viral infection - baby might be having a throat or stomach infection which is very common with teething baby as he tries to put every in his mouth anything contaminated can cause infection. A hot and humid weather is favourable for certain viral and bacterial growth. Keep his surrounding and toys clean and sterlize. Most importantly wash baby's hand multiple time during day. Don't feed any outside food or cut fruits. Add heeng to his food to prevent infection. Make him drink water through the day.
4) boredom - like adults Baby also gets bored of eating same food everyday. Be experimental and introduce new recipes to him. If you are giving him mashed potato try fried version. Presenting the same food in different method becomes appealing to baby and work up baby's appetite. Try to build a family meal time. Everyone in family can sit together to have one meal during day. Seeing others eating baby will be encouraged to do same.
If everything fails just follow your baby's lead and make slow and small changes.
