Question: My daughter has few brown spots on her body and the doctor said they are "Cafe Au Lait Spots". What are these and are they harmful?

Answer: hi dear! Café au lait spots are usually present at birth, permanent, and may grow in size or increase in number over time. Cafe au lait spots are themselves benign and do not cause any illness or problems. However, they may be associated with syndromes such as Neurofibromatosis Type 1. Café-au-lait spots do not go away, may increase in number, and generally do not require treatment. A single café-au-lait spot is not a sign of a health problem. But six or more spots that are larger than0.25 in. (6.4 mm) or ones that occur along with freckles in the armpit or groin can suggest neurofibromatosis. dont worry dear. take care dear!

Answer: Hello! Cafe-au-lait are flat brown patches on skin which develop during birth. The brown patches Might darken if exposed to sun . But it is not always necessary the brown patches be cafe-au-lait. I would infact suggest you to once consult the doctor to check the patches to confirm the same. Also even if it turns to be cafe-au-lait, it is not necessary that it is dangerous or harmful. Take care
