Question: My baby is 5 months 15 days old can I give her cows milk that is amul milk she is preterm is it fine to give my baby the milk plz answer me???

Answer: Hi. No dear cow milk should not be given to baby untill 1 year old. Cow's milk doesn't contain enough iron for young babies. Using it as a substitute for breastmilk before your baby turns one will leave your baby short of important nutrients and may lead to anaemia (too little iron in blood).  Infant formula milk contains more iron and vitamins than cow's milk, and is the better alternative to breastfeeding for the first year if needed.  Cow milk is also harder on your baby’s kidneys than breastmilk or formula milk and can lead to milk allergy. If you suspect your baby may have an allergy or intolerance to cow’s milk, speak to your doctor.  After the first six months, breast milk is not a good enough source of iron, so breastfeeding mums should make sure weaning foods contain plenty of iron. This means using foods such as lean red meats, vegetables and puréesof fresh or dried fruit in your baby's diet.

Answer: Hello, Dear I can understand your situation but please understand that baby's digestion is very immature and baby can't digest cow milk till baby is 12 months. So don't take any risk.. You can give formula milk to baby . It's as good as breast milk and safe for baby . Also you can add some food in your diet to increase your breast milk. Cumin seeds (Jeera): Cumin seeds improves breastmilk. You can have jeera by adding in curries or you can drink jeera water also. Fenugreek Seeds (Methi): Fenugreek seeds are used to increase milk supply in lactating mothers. This can be consumed by adding in curries. Be careful while having it as it has mild diuretic effect, too much consumption will end up in frequent urination. Fennel Seeds (Saunf): It is believed that fennel seeds are used to increase milk supply in breastfeeding mothers. It can be consumed by eating raw or adding in curries, parathas and salads. Black sesame seeds (Til): Black sesame seeds are believed to increase milk supply in mothers. It is great source of calcium. Green vegetables, oats , basil all helps increasing breast milk . Take proper rest: Load or stress affects your breast milk supply. Find some time for yourself to take rest from the busy schedule of baby caring.
