16 weeks pregnant mother

My afi is 20.3. how to reduce it? Because of high afi any problem to my unborn baby?

Question
Hi dear, During pregnancy, amniotic fluid is the protective barrier or cushion for your baby. Though we never think about it at initial stages of pregnancy, but later stages it becomes an important criteria to detect baby's health. Women with inadequate AFI and women with more AFI are both not normal for sure. More than normal ranges fluid could lead to preterm labor by increasing more pressure build up. It could also be due to few reasons: 1- mother's sugar level out of control 2-baby not swallowing enough fluid 3- baby producing excessive urine 4- swelling up in baby's body with excess fluid 5- genetic reasons Certain complications attached to this is preterm labor and Babies are also more likely to move into positions which aren’t ideal for birth. There are certain treatments for this .you can talk to your doctor if it is really required.

Answer: Hello dear. Can understand your concern When you have an afi index of 20 to 24 then you have high level of amniotic fluid. It happens if mother is disbetic or if child swallows insufficient levels of amniotic fluid. Tips to reduce afi 1. Treatment of underlying disease that you have 2. To drain out the excess excess amniotic fluid in our body. This method is used in critical times only since its complicated and have major impact on delivery. 3. The doctor may put you on indomethacin. It helps in reducing AFI. It is prescribed before 31 weeks before delivery. Hope it eases your concern...

Answer: You are having a high amniotic fluid in relation to your third trimester and 36 weeks your amniotic fluid should have been less up till 14 do not worry your doctor will plan your pregnancy accordingly what happens in high amniotic fluid is your baby keeps floting and it does not achieve a headlock or does not stabilize itself it keeps floating in the fluid sometimes in cases of high blood pressure of sugar we're having a gestational diabetes then high amniotic fluid can be a problem for babies delivery your doctor might planner cesarean delivery for you do not worry your amniotic fluid should decrease by the time of 39 weeks and if it does not decrease then your doctor will decide to do a cesarean in 9th month as well it will only depend on the condition of a baby so continuous monitoring is important you must take a scan every week now because of high amniotic fluid
