Question: Is epidural delivery safe?

1 Answers
Question
Answer: hi Epidural analgesia is a highly effective form of pain relief and a useful intervention in certain circumstances. However, epidurals and spinals also cause unintended side effects in both the mother and baby, and interfere with the natural birthprocess and bonding between mother & baby.

Question: What is epidural delivery?is it safe?
Answer: Epidurals are widely considered safe, and probably you will be fine with or without one. What worried me most personally was that epidurals have been proven in numerous medical studies to prolong the second (pushing) stage of labor because the mom can't feel to push well, sometimes leading to a vaccuum delivery or c-section. Often epidurals can slow progression a bit during active labor and thus about half of moms with epidurals get pitocin to strengthen their contractions, which can be stressful for the baby. On the other hand, because the epidural medication is inserted into the spinal column and not the bloodstream, less of the medication gets to the baby than with other drugs used during childbirth. Sometimes they are really useful because the mom can better relax and dilate. Hope it helps.

Question: Is epidural delivery is safe??????
Answer: Epidurals block the nerve impulses from the lower spinal segments. This results in decreased sensation in the lower half of the body. This produces pain relief with minimal effects. Since you wont be feeling pain your labour duration may increase as you.will have to push when your doctor will ask you to do so. Its fine to ho for epidural delivery. Talk to your doctor in detail about the concequences. Good luck.
