Question: My son is 6 months old..plz share how to introduce solid food
Answer: Start with fruit pureed, as it’s easy to digest.
Always follow 3 days-wait-rule.
That means you must keep a gap of 3 days between two new foods.
This is the best way to check food allergies in babies.
Stop feeding that particular food in case of food allergy.
Don’t add breastmilk or formula milk during cooking, it should not be heated directly on the flame. Add breast milk or formula milk once the food is ready to eat for your baby.
Baby food must be soft, properly cooked and easy to chew.
Start with a very small quantity of 1 spoon and slowly increase the portion.
Weaning food must be a single grain food.Always feed freshly cooked food to your baby.
Do not add salt, sugar, honey to your baby’s food.Mashed bananaStewed apple Well steamed and pureed vegetables like carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin , french beansPulse soup (moong dal ka pani)Rice Water (Chawal ka pani)Homemade single-grain cereals like rice, barley, oats mixed with breastmilk or formula milkSteamed and pureed fruits like pear, avocado, peach, chikoo. You can try the homemade vegetable soup for your baby.
Pureed vegetables (sweet potatoes, squash),Pureed fruit (apples, bananas, peaches),Pureed meat (chicken, pork, beef),Semi-liquid, iron-fortified cereal, Small amounts of unsweetened yogurt (no cow's milk until age 1).
Question: My baby doesn't like solid she takes only in puree form
Its because the of the texture, since no texture was not introduced at an early age he is used to have pureed food.
Try giving finger food instead. Big enough for him to hold and chomp. Something soft like a piece of ripe guava, or cooked carrot or pumpkin, or steamed apple. Let him hold and eat it. Even better is something crunchy that breaks up easily in the mouth like a paper dosa or rawa uttapam.
It is normal to gag when they first start solids (puree does not really count in terms of texture) is very normal. It will gradually get better as he gets used to manipulate the food in the mouth. But if you leave it too long, the gag reflex is actually going to stay further so it is more difficult for baby to make the transition.
Hope this helps!
