Answer: Hello dear congratulations for pregnancy. Both test are necessary for baby health. The NT scan measures the clear (translucent) space in the tissue at the back of your baby's neck. Babies with abnormalities tend to accumulate more fluid at the back of their neck during the first trimester, causing this clear space to be larger than average. The NT scan is not invasive. Double marker test is a blood test. If u do double marker test it's easy to know the chromosomal abnormalities. It is usually done between 9 to 13 week.

Question: Hello...im 11week pregnant...and i have to know What is NT scan + double marker test...??? My doctor suggested this test... for what purpose???
Answer: Hi The first ultrasound is suggested by the doctors in the first trimester which is nt scan . This helps to know baby proper mental growth. The second ultrasound, usually, happens at the 18th week which is . This is supposed to be the ideal timing for your second ultrasound session. This time, the doctor checks whether your child has a normal anatomy or not. In abnormal cases where the doctor suspects something wrong in the baby within you, they call for more ultrasounds depending upon the need. For mothers who are under a medical condition of diabetes or hypertension, there might again be a need for more ultrasounds. However, this completely depends on your doctor.

Question: I want to know about nt scan and double marker test and why it should be done and what happens if the risk ratio is high?
Answer: Nt scan along with double marker test are done to screen for any chromsomal abnormalities in your baby such as Down's syndrome etc. Based on your maternal age, double marker test defines a risk ratio. If you are below the cut off, it is low risk and so on.However, blood test alone can not determine the actual risks. Nt scan measures the amount of fluid at the back of your baby's head which is generally high for down syndrome babies. Hence both of them combined gives you the calculated risk. Do not worry, most of the time it turns out normal and hence it is just a screening test not a diagnosis test. Take care.
