17 weeks pregnant mother

Question: Am on 16th week . My cervical length is 4.8cm .is it a problem?

Question
Answer: Hi dear, Cervical length is the length of the lower end of uterus.in non pregnant women it is 4-5 cm.ince you are at 24 week, average length of the cervix is around 3.5cm.anything below,2.2 cm could increase your chance of preterm labor.initial symptoms of shorter cervical length, could be: 1- vaginal discharge which is often pink or tan 2- increased pelvic pressure 3-watery white discharge 4- spotting 5-bachaches 6- premenstrual like cramps Though the above symptoms could also be due hormonal changes, but it's better to check with your doctor.it usually decreases only at the final stages to induce labor. Cervical insufficiency,is the reason for such early dialation of cervix and shortening the length.

Question: I am 16th week pregnant. Dr's suggested me to take rest n don't sit on the floor. In N. T scan cervical length is shown as 2.3 is it a problem???
Answer: Hi Dear! The length of your lower uterus level is the cervical length which is connected to your vagina and is very important , if youd length is 2.3 its a short cervix.. Usually a normal cervical length is 4-5 cm long when not pregnant and its closed and rigid but during the course of pregnancy it becomes soft and dilated hence women with short cervix get cervical stitches to protect the baby thats why ur Dr. has aaked to rest.. Also now that you know that u hv cervical incompetency so avoid sexual intercourse and lifting Heavy weight. Bed rest is important.. Hope this helps!

Question: I am in 13th week of pregnancy and my cervical length is 2.5 is it normal
Answer: Dear it is less. Ideally it should be 3cm and above. If it is below 2.2cm you would be needing cervical cerclage to avoid preterm birth. Ur gynae would be repeating the scan to check if the length increases in the coming weeks. Hope it helps.
