Question: In my scan report ,Prominent right renal pelvis AP diameter-6.4 mm ..somebody plz explain what is this?
Answer: Renal pelvis dilatation (or hydronephrosis) is a widening of the renal pelvis and is a common finding on ultrasound scans (USS) performed during pregnancy. Often it is temporary and not associated with any problems in the kidney or ureter. The measurement from 'front to back' of the renal pelvis is measured at your 20 week ultrasound scan. The normal measurement of the renal pelvis is 0-7mm before 24 weeks and less than 10mm after 28 weeks. If the measurement is more than this, it is called renal pelvic dilatation.
