Answer: The fetal pole is a thickening on the margin of the yolk sac of a fetus during pregnancy. It is usually identified at six weeks with vaginal ultrasound and at six and a half weeks with abdominal ultrasound.[1] However it is quite normal for the fetal pole to not be visible until about 9 weeks.

Question: 7 weeks 5days... i had a scan this is the second scan.. there was no fetal pole no cardiac activity... they confirmed it as blighted ovum and asked me to get D &C done. Please suggest what should i do
Answer: hi dear! so yes if there is no cardiac activity then dear better is to go ahead with d and c as suggested by the doctor. blighted ovum means that the egg attaches to the uterine wall as in normal pregnancy but it does not develop into embryo. but dont loos hope dear. just go ahead with the d and c . its a procedure in which whatever is there inside is sucked out through a tube so that there is no recidue. so dont worry dear. take care! i hope this information is helpful to you!

Question: Just done my ultrasound and yolk sac and fetal pole is seen. Fetal pole was absent last week. But no heart beat is found. Is there still hope
Answer: Hi Dear , There is less hopes. Actually the foetal heart rate can seen perfectly at the age of 8 weeks gestation. But if no heart beat means less chanses, abd doctors will suggest for miscarriage either naturally or D&C procedure to avoid complications in future. Check with your doctor one more time and take advice.
