Question
Answer: Hi. If you're diagnosed with polyhydramnios, your doctor will order a high-resolution ultrasound to check for abnormalities and some test for a genetic defect and infections. You'll also need to have regular nonstress testor ultrasounds for the rest of your pregnancy to monitor your baby's development. And you'll be watched closely for signs of preterm labor. There are chances of  gestational diabetes too so doctor will ask to go for diabeties test also.

Question: I am 37 weeks pregnant my AFI is 8.. is it risky?? How to increase AFI?
Answer: Hi dear, Amniotic fluid index(AFI),should be anywhere between 10- 18. Yours seems to be quite low.Ideally 12 is good. But since your level is borderline,I would advice you to consult doctor.as high AFI could make the normal delivery difficult and you could deliver through c section .also low AFI could give you preterm delivery. low AFI has few reasons: birth defects, which could give kidney problems or urinary tract issues in baby.placental problem.if the placenta is not providing enough nutrition to baby, then baby would stop recycling fluid.if mother has fluid early leakage.maternal complications like diabetes, high BP. dehydration Risks: baby could not develop lungs and muscles well.as from second trimester, baby starts to swallow the fluid and recycle it.increased chance of miscarriage or still birth.preterm birth Treatment: plenty of fluids to be taken.barley water is good in such conditions.some cases IV fluids are administered. injecting fluids through amniocentesis. amnio infusion through catheter during labor..

Question: Hi my afi measures is 21.3 cm it is higher side of normal pls advice how to reduce
Answer: Afi level 8 to 18 is considered to be normal . your afi level is high. Hi, high levels of amniotic fluid can cause placental abruptions, premature labour pains, postpartum haemorrhage and caesarean delivery. Doctor might tell you to do Amniocentesis a process in which drains out the excess amniotic fluid in our body. This method is used only in critical times since this process might cause preterm labour and delivery. The level of amniotic fluid can also be brought down by delivering the baby. When the water breaks the amniotic fluid is flushed out. Please contact your doctor and ask whats your condition right now. also you can limit your fluid intake. do not drink more water or juice or fluid. Avoid food and fruits which have high water content. Hope this helps
